"Beijing is Sinking"
The deeds that need to be done today
Will wait
Instead let me spread a blanket
On the beach and soak you in
Like ultraviolet rays of joy
Berry brown skin freckled with sand
Chasing chickens by the ocean
Building castles on the shoreline
Washed away and built again
And like the tide that is retreating
Our time is fleeting
So cling tightly to my neck
And I’ll hold onto this moment
As the sun breaks and the waves crash
Like so many things do
And leave nothing but memories in their wake
All the while
Beijing is sinking
So I cling tightly back to you
A part of me and those before and after
As those same waves crash into us
We fall and get back up
And memorize every moment
Because crimson stains and stomach pains
Rip away new memories that were meant to heal
Another sudden loss
A reciprocal approach to life
That seemed promised but isn't
Because the only promise of life is that
Life is not promised
Will wait
Instead let me spread a blanket
On the beach and soak you in
Like ultraviolet rays of joy
Berry brown skin freckled with sand
Chasing chickens by the ocean
Building castles on the shoreline
Washed away and built again
And like the tide that is retreating
Our time is fleeting
So cling tightly to my neck
And I’ll hold onto this moment
As the sun breaks and the waves crash
Like so many things do
And leave nothing but memories in their wake
All the while
Beijing is sinking
So I cling tightly back to you

As those same waves crash into us
We fall and get back up
